One Term Wonder Joe Walsh: Who’s The Ass Again?

    February 19, 2016 - By ginny

So glad this guy got booted out after just one term, and now the IL-08 district is reliably blue. Why is it that when Dems leave office, they disappear? When Republicans get bounced, they go on talk shows or create their own. Joe Walsh, a radical Tea Party congressman who was voted out of office after one term amid a variety of financial problems and has since become a right-wing radio host, is none too pleased about Presi Source: Former Rep. Joe Walsh: Obama Is An ‘Arrogant, Immature, Anti-American Ass!’

If You’re Young, Here’s Why Old Bernie Sanders Looks Good

    January 4, 2016 - By ginny

Young voters, please read this article in @Huffpost: you won't remember the shit that went down in the 90's, but Bernie Sanders is free of all that baggage. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/h-a-goodman/bernie-sanders-will-be-sworn-in-as-americas-45th-president_b_8909356.html

Remembering Pete Seeger: The Banks Of Marble

    January 28, 2014 - By ginny

My friend the late Fr. Paul Brouillette was huge Seeger fan and fellow banjo player; he once played and sang this in church. He was that kind of guy, and today he welcomes his hero to the celestial jam session. I once heard a young Occupy Chicago protester sing it via a live Internet feed. Still relevant, still rousing the rabble, Seeger’s passing means the banksters have one less whiny folksinger to criticize them.

Talking Heads Praise Pope’s Concern for Poor, Ignore Own Part in Austerity Politics

    December 29, 2013 - By ginny

Crooks and Liars, on the new Pope: They probably weren’t hired for their introspection, but it’s still a little startling when you see how little responsibility Beltway media types take for pushing austerity politics. It’s interesting, I think, that the Beltway newsreaders (and certain ultra-conservative cardinals) are so enthusiastic about Pope Francis and his concern for the poor — without a moment’s introspection about their own part in enabling the politicians and policies that somehow always benefit the members of their own class and kick poor people in the teeth. Toward A More Perfect Union: I Peacefully Petition For A Trial Separation from Dumbasses.

    November 13, 2012 - By ginny

You’ve heard about the current national craze for secession coming from unhappy conservatives dismayed at finding themselves on the light end of the great scales of justice and democracy. It’s a fad. A friend of mine somewhere in either Utah or Washington State (he has friends and family in both places) filed a petition asking that all the, ah, offensively stereotyped conservatives be allowed to secede as soon as possible. Texas and Louisiana’s petitions are subscribed enough to qualify for an official response from the Obama administration (Texas will probably hit 100,000 petitioners). Out of curiousity, I checked the site…

Bye Bye, Boys: Bashir Takes a Parting Whack at @RepJoeWalsh And The Rest Of Bunch

    November 12, 2012 - By ginny

Martin Bashir and Luke (Not Your Father) Russert take a satisfying whack at Rep. Joe Walsh, Todd Aiken, and Allen West. Then Bashir bats around Michele Bachmann, who technically is not a boy, although she resembles the famous “Bat Boy” of “News of the World” fame. As predicted, many of the more obtuse Republicans (okay, Tea Partiers) believe their Election Day losses are due to having a candidate who just wasn’t conservative enough. Some of them blame Karl Rove; others blame Republican leadership. They blame candidates who said stupid things about rape, but not the mentality that made them think…

Sure You Can Shove Your Delicious Religion Down My Throat, Flying Spaghetti Monster! #RomneyShellshocked

    November 9, 2012 - By ginny

More delicious schadenfreude, with extra red sauce, O Most Holy and Comforting Flying Spaghetti Monster! Here’s a funny commenter at the Atlantic named slownews, replying to a religious lunatic person by pointing out the awesome truth behind her faith-based irrationality: slownews says: AULANDA replies (to slownews) slownews – God’s word may have been rejected by some but not all. God will finish what He started with His creation and He will do it His way. Reject Him if you choose, He hasn’t rejected you. Remember that when you face judgement that is certainly coming. ———- The Creator is the Flying…

Evolution Is A Thing Is The Song I Want To Sing

    November 8, 2012 - By ginny

When I’m happy, I sing. I’ll be singing this for a while. Ohio really did go to the president last night.   And he really did win. And he really was born in Hawaii. And he really is -legitimately- President of the United States. Again.   And the Bureau of Labor Statistics did not make-up a fake unemployment rate last month. And the Congressional Research Service really can find no evidence That cutting taxes on rich people grows the economy.     And the polls were not skewed to over-sample Democrats. And Nate Silver was not making up fake projections…

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
