If Your Grandfather Hadn’t Worn It…

    January 8, 2007 - By ginny

Old Spice goes racy, retro to woo young men | Oddly Enough | Reuters.com Proctor and Gamble went for a little edgier sales pitch with classic men's fragrance Old Spice. Well, if my dad hadn't worn it, I probably wouldn't be here either. And when David wears it… look out!

    Glonus chinese

    January 6, 2007 - By ginny

David and I went shopping at Woodfield yesterday for jeans and what-not, and stopped at Stir Crazy, the eclectic Asian bistro, for lunch. I noticed that they're still using the wacky Chinglish chopsticks; the paper cover says something about the "glonus Chinese culture cuisine." That would be "glorious," y'all. Post-Pat Robertson Palate Cleanser: Episcopal Humor

    January 4, 2007 - By ginny

From daily episcopalian: Aint Misbehavin Came across this ditty on the House of Bishops and Deputies list (of all places) today. It is a lyric by Garrison Keillor. Sung to the tune of Ain't Misbehavin'. I'm slow to anger, don't covet or lust. No sins of pride except sometimes I really must. Episcopalian, saving my love for you. The theology's easy, the liturgy too. Just stand up and kneel down and say what the others do. Episcopalian, saving my love for you. I bless myself with a flick of the wrist. You'd never know I was raised fundamentalist. Episcopalian, saving…

    An Elegant Solution: Jefferson’s Quran

    January 3, 2007 - By ginny

NPR : Ellison to Use Thomas Jeffersons Quran in Ceremony Newly elected Rep. Keith Ellison announced last month that he planned to take the oath of office with his hand on the Quran. The decision by the Minnesota Democrat, the first Muslim elected to Congress, drew criticism. But now Ellison says he plans to use a copy of the Quran once owned by Thomas Jefferson. Michele Norris talks with Mark Dimunation, chief of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division of the Library of Congress, who helped Ellison locate Jeffersons Quran. You know what? This is all right. All right.…

    Indy: Oldest. Whippersnapping Archeologist. Evaarrrr.

    January 3, 2007 - By ginny

NPR : Harrison Ford Returns As Indiana Jones Another graying action star is reviving an old role. Harrison Ford will once again crack the whip, 18 years after Indiana Jones' last adventure. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are also back, directing and producing. Excited fans do wonder if, at 64, Indy can still do the stunts. I'm wondering, too. I'll never forget the time I saw the first Indiana Jones movie, which was around New Years when I was still in college. I've been a fan of Harrison Ford's since American Graffiti and Star Wars (okay, yes, I've had the…

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

Maury Povich lie detector meme: It says here… Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose further, with China hit by 104% tariffs

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
