A Test Of One’s Own Google Reader Shared Items

Recently, Dave over at DDtB noted that Google Reader’s shared items can scroll off one’s web page widget pretty quickly, but that it set up a fairly nice unordered list if you copied it off the widget for further commentary on your blog. And so it does, especially if you choose Paste Special > Remove MS Word formatting, which also removes Mozilla- and Google-added style elements. This is handy if you have a number of links grouped together and want to grab them for a quick omnibus post. Not so easy if they’ve already scrolled off the widget and are on either your…

McCain Voters Have An Image Problem

Namely, this one: Are they really all white, older, infirm, and completely dead to the world? I’d have wondered if this were a Photoshop job, but there’s a natural looking curve in the one guy’s sign, and you can see the edge of another held by the guy behind him. The walker is just icing on the cake. h/t One Utah » Blog Archive » McCain’s America, previously from Bob Casca’s Goddamn Awesome Blog.

    Rainy Sunday

Good thing we got out to Morton Arboretum yesterday, it looks like it’ll rain all day today. We even got on the bikes to ride one of the loops although I had trouble downshifting. On the way down we listened to Car Talk and I actually submitted an answer to this week’s Puzzler via my trusty iPhone. I know why the cement mixer will get a quicker start than the dump truck, do you? Yeah, another post by iPhone. Lately it seems I use Google Reader to stay current and they recently added the ability to add notes to the…

Tit for Tat: As Ye Ambush, So Shall Ye Be Ambushed

Check it out: a producer for FOX’s Bill O’Reilly attempts to beard the dragon in his den, and ambushes Bill Moyers at the National Conference for Media Reform. He tried the “repeat the question, repeat the question” badgering tactic, asking Moyers about his political affiliation, with the obvious implication that the conference is a nest of disloyal, pinko leftists. But Bill turns the tables on him, attempting to engage him, upbraiding him for acting as a shill for a man he calls “not a journalist, but a pugilist,” and challenges him to go back to his boss with an offer…

Greasing The Tracks The Wrong Way

Animal fat leak halts Metra trains — chicagotribune.com Commuter rail service on Metra/s Union Pacific West Line has been halted indefinitely at the height of the afternoon rush hour because a stalled freight train is leaking animal fat onto the tracks, Metra officials said Friday afternoon. It’s a sticky situation: high winds and high humidity and high temperatures, plus an unGodly amount of spilled animal fat that’s forced all the roads that cross the tracks in a long section of the Metra West Line to be closed, except for IL-83 and York Road, which cross via underpasses. Also, I-355 and…

Zimbabwe: Mugabe’s Obscene Refusal of Food Aid

Zimbabwe dicator-for-an-indeteriminate-period-of-time Robert Mugabe is in Rome at an international food conference; his presence there has been called “obscene” by the UK and Austrailian delegations, because his “land reform” (ie., crony land-bribes) policies are putting his people in danger of mass starvation. Also, his thugs are in the habit of burning food supplies in areas thought to support the opposition MDC. He has also refused food aid in the past, because he wants total control over food supplies to “opposition” areas. BBC NEWS | Africa | Zimbabwe blocks political aid “Zimbabwe’s government has banned at least one international aid group…
