Aaaaahh!! Get The Picture Out of My Brain!

I ran across Alton Brown’s Rants & Raves! earlier today. Love that show. LOVE that show. Mostly because AB offers solid advice about cooking, techniques, gear, and has a quirky visual style that makes it all look like fun. What scares me is that some people watch Alton for Alton. And some compare him (favorably? Unfavorably? to Orlando Bloom, international Elven heartthrob). And now I have a mential image of Alton Brown wearing tights and baking brownies. Please, Mommy, make the pictures stop. 😉 (must fight images. Must go to my happy tuna steak with wasabi place. )

Singing (and Walking) in the Rain

Tenor Takes AWinter Journey Coast-to-Coast This is so cool! Tenor David Pisaro is walking across northern England on the classic Coast to Coast footpath right now, planning on ending his journey at Robin Hood’s Bay on about the 31st of January. The catch is that he is performing Schubert’s “Die Winterreise” each night – sometimes to audiences as small as 3 people (in a farmhouse that had the only piano for miles around). He’s attempting to meld “method” acting with classical music by literally experiencing a long, cold winter’s journey and then singing his heart out about just such a…

Ready, Set, Amazing Race Already, Will Ya?

Checked in at the TARflies Times site to see if the little counter to the next episode has started yet. Nope. Checked in at the TWOP Amazing Race site to see if any spoilers had been posted (sightings are considered spoilers) and ditto – nope. Augh. What’s happening? What’s happening? Are they starting soon?? And since the Tarflies site is run as a group blog, onto the blogroll it goes. Yayyyyy! (tm Kenny) God, I miss this show. Ready, set, Amazing Race already!

How The Hell Did I Get Here

Conventions are dangerous, exciting places. Sometimes you meet someone special, as described by The Redhead. Conventions – specifically, fan or hobby conventions, bring together people with mutual interests (and no, they're not all a bunch of online weirdos with no lives). People who enjoy sharing their love for a hobby or an obsession with others love getting together for a good time – and afterwards, they've got connections that they didn't have before. And this is a good basis for starting something – anything – between people. All this reminds me of how David and I met. It was at…

    Are They Off Or What???

I stopped by Television Without Pity to see if there was any news about the next season of The Amazing Race and found there were rumors flying in the “Spoilers” thread. The race is on!! Or is it? One rumor seemed really credible at first – people spotted running around in very TAR-like style in Vancouver, BC – but it there’s a chance that the sighting actually a fall event that has an “Amazing Race” theme. Apparently there’s a company that runs task-based adventure/racing activities as team building exercises there. In the meantime, Canadians aren’t eligible to enter the Race…

“The Andorian Mining Consortium Runs From No One”

We watched the new Enterprise episode “Proving Ground” the other night, and I have to say it was quite enjoyable, entertaining, and definitely not boring. Our old friend Shran showed up (you know, the guy that used to be Weyoun) and got to do a little roleplaying on the bridge of his own ship. Shran obviously enjoyed pretending to be a goofy space prospector representing a fake mining company, and delivered the best line in the episode when he was sent packing by the Xindi ships: “The Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one.” Heh. It seems the Enterprise has…

    Firefly – DVD and Recaps

Hey, honey? David? I really want Firefly – The Complete Series”this. Just so I have it handy, here are the Television Without Pity recaps just to remind me of what it was about. Gorram Alliance Network suits. And I have to figure out the whole gorram wiki thing, too – if they get the links working later maybe. Will have to check this out much more later, too. Yawn

    The Shrine of St TiVo

I knew there were other fellow parishioners out there: Contra Costa Times | 11/09/2003 | Worshipping at TiVo’s shrine A woman in the article mentions that she’d give up her hair dryer or maybe her cell phone before she’d give up TiVo. Hmm. I”d give up cordless phones or maaaaybe the microwave before I’d give up TiVo. No, wait – need popcorn sometimes. I’d give up cordless phones.

    Arr Arr Arr

Our buddy Steve called about the time we were wondering what to do about dinner with only frozen chicken and some green beans in the fridge. “Hell, yes, we’ll meet you and your friends for pizza at Gino’s East!” We didn’t know everyone there that well, but several pitchers of Coke and a black olive-pepperoni-garlic deep dish pizza later, it was much more betta. Oh. My. God. That extra garlic with the olives totally MADE that pizza work. Golf claps were awarded to the person who chose the ingredients. It was a fine time and it was nice seeing some…

    What is that you’re saying?

No, this isn’t about vampires. Or people who swipe cool stuff from other blogs. I just wanted to be clear about that. Turns out “blogula” isn’t that original a word, according to Google. Although when I checked just now, I found that among other things, “Tabula Rasa” is a mailing list devoted to Spike, the conflicted vampire-with-a-soul (one of at least two in the world). The symmetry amuses me, and so “Blogula Rasa” it remains. And so, what we watch…
