Television Without Pity » Doctor Who » Fear Her Rose and the Doctor head to London 2012 for the Olympics, only to find themselves on a suburban street where the children are disappearing. After a bunch of herrings both red and anvilicious, it is discovered that one lonely little girl named Chloe is responsible: she pulls her neighbors into her art by drawing them. Shes also got her mean scary demonic dad locked up in a very scary picture in her closet. After a billion years of gumshoe and lots of sardonic twitticisms, it is discovered that the girl is…

In November of 1993, I visited Japan for 2 weeks. It was a big adventure; my friend Debbie was living in Nagoya then and the original plan was that we’d take off for a few days together and then I’d be on my own. The plan changed when Debbie had a family emergency, and she left me in the hands of some friends of hers. I spent a lot of time at first getting used to living in a Japanese apartment, exploring Nagoya via subway, and watching a lot of Japanese TV. Then after a few days of culture shock…

Its beginning to look a lot like public radio at WBEZ | Chicago Tribune So WBEZ had music in its sights for much of the year, but in the end, it couldn't pull the trigger. The Chicago public radio station (FM 91.5) has posted its new, news-and-talk schedule, and the surprise is that so much music survives, although very little of it is jazz. It was the threatened death of WBEZ's voluminous jazz programming that caused so much (well-mannered) furor when the plans were announced earlier this year. Not from me, I was totally ecstatic when I heard WBEZ was…

This is an example of the kinds of things we're going to be moving from Holy Moly to St Nicholas. It's one of the Stations of the Cross that was made by one of our parishioners, and I think it represents Jesus falling the first time on the long walk to Calvary. If you look closely, you can see two honkin' big wood screws going right up His robe. Also, it's really battered and like all the rest, really dusty and cobwebby. The ladies from the Altar Guild no longer dust these, because they regularly got pulled from the wall…

NPR : Rumsfeld Makes Farewell Visit to Troops in Iraq This photo from NPR, via Getty Images, tells an untold story. Donald Rumsfeld, grinning widely, gets a last photo op with "the troops" that he was so instrumental in placing in harm's way. The female Marine at lower right seems to be smiling politely. Maybe she's thinking "My mom/husband/kids will see me" and is happy at the prospect. The other Marines in the photo all look stonily and grimly at some other focal point. The one guy standing on the right looks directly into the camera. I can't…

The Cornjob Memorial Library: Where Were You In 1992? Go to www.popCulturemadness.com and select the year you became 18. Paste the list of the top 75 songs. Bold the ones you liked; strike the ones you disliked; and italicize the ones you know but don't exactly like nor dislike. The ones you don't know will stay common text. Sadly for me, 1975 was not a year of going boldly. In fact, it was one big strikeout, musically and socially. 1975 Greatest Hits 1. Get Down Tonight – KC & The Sunshine Band 2. Thank God I'm A Country Boy – John Denver…

GCBME.COM Where You put the ME in MEdia I dropped by my Flickr page and noticed someone had put a comment on my photo of a juvenile Goa'uld caught in my homemade snakehead trap (it's cleverly disguised as a lava lamp): The comment was: WATCH IT HERE Please vote for my video HERE The contest COULD HELP to bring back SG1 for another season! Thanks, Angie Moriconi It's actually a pretty cute video, with a talking cat grumbling about how his obsessed "Tauri" has been spending all her time mailing boxes of Kleenex (inside joke) to the powers…
