UPDATE:On re-rereading this I realized that I came off like a churlish jerky girl with regards to the people of Burma and the heroic monks who are marching (and dying) for them and for a more democratic form of government. That wasn’t my intent. I’ve been moved by the photos people have posted on Flickr, in support of peace and justice in Burma, that have been showing up on my Google Flickr thingy. So I thought I’d better make things better. I happened to scan the recent White House press briefing, following up on something completely different noted by OneUtah:…

The below is a real letter to the editor of the Salt Lake Tribune. The writer urges her fellow young people to get off their butts and vote, because “Yes, the people who take arthritis meds and think that gardening is a snazzy hobby are the ones who make your decisions.” As it happens, I’m probably on track for arthritis meds in a few years, as I’m starting to notice mild pains in my fingers, and my shoulders generally ache all the time. And this year I got into growing vegetables, in a minor way. And in a few days,…

Could there be a psychological or neurological reason why some people tend to be conservative, while others tend to be liberal? Possibly; and it might extend to how people think about new scientific ideas, political concepts, and even matters of faith. This might explain a lot about the current divide between the liberal and conservative wings of various Protestant churches, including my own. The “persistent in their judgements” sure sounds familiar. So does the “structured” model versus “anything goes, you adorable herd of cat-nuns” model. Their brains are different from our brains! Their zombies won’t eat our brainsssss, and our…

There was news today about 8 terrorists, alleged Al Qaeda members, being captured in Denmark. At the time I looked at the State.gov website to see if there was a travel advisory, there was a link on the front page to where travelers could find out more information about travel to Denmark. The travel advisory page itself hasn’t been updated since August 9. It was accompanied by this photo. Clearly, the State Department hasn’t gottenaround to updating their site yet, at least as of 135pm Central Daylight time today. UPDATE:Viking terror rampages on, at least on the State Departement’s main…

Via the ever-excellent Hullabaloo: “White Power!†the Nazi’s shouted, “White Flour?†the clowns yelled back running in circles throwing flour in the air and raising separate letters which spelt “White Flourâ€. “White Power!†the Nazi’s angrily shouted once more, “White flowers?†the clowns cheers and threw white flowers in the air and danced about merrily. “White Power!†the Nazi’s tried once again in a doomed and somewhat funny attempt to clarify their message, “ohhhhhh!†the clowns yelled “Tight Shower!†and held a solar shower in the air…
