    Review: Seattle-SeaTac Intl Airport

We stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Seattle-SeaTac International Airport. It was a really late check-in as our flight on United (boo) was late, but David had paid to get us Economy Plus seats so we were one of the first people off the plane (yay). Getting to the hotel was the hardest part of the evening, no small feat with brains partly shut down with travel stress and legs still getting used to working again after 4 hours in the air. Seatac has changed somewhat since my days of living in Seattle and flying in and out of…

Say It Ain’t So, Teabagger Joe

My Congressman is Rep. Joe Walsh, and he’s having a bad week. First he makes this obnoxious and cluelessly racist statement about why Obama got elected – due to “white guilt” and the ability to sound smart and educated… And then he goes on to insult American Jews who aren’t supportive enough of the State of Israel. Oy. first the Obama gaffe, then a later post with the reaction from smart, educated American Jews. “Why was he elected? Again, it comes back to who he was. He was black, he was historic. And there’s nothing racist about this. It is…

Crap! Leave No Purse Behind, Dammit!

The bad news: I left my purse behind on Bainbridge Island yesterday and discovered this AFTER we made the ferry to Seattle with minutes to spare. The good news: it was at Fork and Spoon, the last place we were, and my friend Kevin was able to retrieve it. The middling news: I have to go back this morning and meet Kevin on the pedestrian ramp on the Winslow side. The not-bad-at-all news: the Number 16 bus goes direct from the hotel to the ferry terminal, so I’m off reconnecting with my earlier bus-riding self while David relaxes at the…

Comment is free | O’Lielly Lies, Savage Savaged, Hannity Ho-Hum

How our right-wing talkers are explained to the British by one of the Guardian’s columnists: don’t miss the bit where Michael Savage, banned from travel to Britain, whines about Obama’s ecstatic reception in Ireland. I liked this bit where BillO grouses that FOXNews don’t get no respect. It is understandable why O’Reilly would be concerned about losing advertisers in light of the recent cancellation of his colleague Glenn Beck’s show. Though no official reason was given for the programme’s cancellation, it is widely speculated that the loss of revenue resulting from the Stopbeck campaign’s call for an advertiser boycott had…

British Far Right, Defeated At Polls, Resorts To Street Thuggery

Can we expect this even if our own ultra-right is marginalized and defeated in elections? Somehow I think our racist wackos skew older, and less physically able to carry out coordinated attacks. But dang, they could sure cause traffic jams and hog all the sidewalks with their RVs and scooters. Far-right activists have attacked trade union meetings and anti-racist groups in the past month in what campaigners and politicians say is an escalating campaign of intimidation and violence. In the latest incident, a 20-strong group hurled concrete pillars, glass and rocks at a meeting on multiculturalism organised by Labour councillors…

Riley Doing Well At The Kitty Spa

While we’re on vacation, I checked with our vet, Arlington Cat Clinic, where Riley is being boarded (and probably being a little boreded). He’s fine, eating well, getting his meds. Doc Esbenson thinks he should have better “numbers” for white blood cell count, though, so he will check with a specialist. They’re taking good care of Riley and report that he really, REALLY likes the Fancy Feast Extra Gravy style that we sent along with his prescription Science Diet food. We miss Riley and although we’ll be sad that vacation’s over, we’ll be glad to bring Riley home once we…

In Which I Has Yet Another Pifanee: Friends and Family Matter

So here we are, blogging again, are we? It seems the only times I bother to blog are those times when I’m traveling, when I get a burst of blogging energy and also take a lot of pictures which will have to be uploaded, culled, cropped, and commented on. This time, we’re back in Seattle getting ready for another run at Northwest FolkLife Festival after spending the first half of our trip in Port Angeles exploring the edges of Olympic National Park while living the luxurious high life at Colette’s Bed and Breakfast. As lazy-blogged previously via Twitter, we got…
