Ampersand! Ampersand! Ampersand! My Life Is One Big “And…”

    February 6, 2020 - By ginny

We’re in a holding pattern here at Chez Gique, waiting for something to happen – a good thing, just hasn’t happened yet. And it’s hard to be patient, and it’s hard not to hyperfocus on “when will we know happens next,” and it’s hard to keep spirits up and positive. So in the meantime, other than the fact that a narcissistic madman is running the country, what else is going on? Well, it’s currently hard to type words like “currently,” “hard,” or “words,” because the “R” key on my iPad Mini Rugged Zagg book is missing a keycap, and as…

    Murder at the Ashmolean

    January 28, 2020 - By ginny

It’s rare for me to start a book and not finish it. It’s even rarer for me to start a book, finish two other books in a day each, and read the first one a few chapters at a time.

Why Was Suleimani Killed? Deep Dive By BBC World Services Adds Surprising Details In Only 23 Minutes

    January 11, 2020 - By ginny

President Trump’s decision to assassinate Qasem Soleimani came as a shock to America’s foes and allies alike. He was Iran’s top general and has been described as one of the country’s most powerful figures, second only to the Supreme Leader Ayotollah Ali Khamenei. He was, effectively, head of Iran’s foreign policy. He’s been credited as being instrumental in the fight against ISIS but has also been accused of arming and supporting terror groups. But why did Donald Trump order his death?

    What’s For Dinner: Healthy Shepherd’s Pie {Cauliflower-Potato Topping!} from SimplyRecipes.com

    January 5, 2020 - By ginny

Comfort more than nutrition usually comes to mind when you think of a meat-and-potatoes meal. This recipe qualifies as both. It has all the comfort of classic shepherd’s pie, but works in extra veggies, olive oil instead of butter, and leaner beef. Nobody will be the wiser, since it remains so flavorful and satisfying.INGREDIENTSFor the potato-cauliflower topping:1 1/2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for salting the cooking water8 ounces cauliflower florets (2 heaping cups)2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil1/2 cup low-fat milkFreshly ground black pepper1/2 cup shredded sharp or extra-sharp cheddar cheese…

    I Want To Live In A Country…

    January 5, 2020 - By ginny

I want to live in a country where we send our troops to save koala bears instead of making money for old men that own stocks in defense contractors. @realDonaldTrump — NoelCaslerComedy? (@caslernoel) January 5, 2020

Speeding Car Hits Police Car, Injures People In Dispensary Line

    January 3, 2020 - By ginny

A speeding car hit an Elmwood Park police vehicle and nearly hit the police chief and people waiting in line on the first day of legal cannabis sales in Illinois. Those waiting in line who were not injured…were remarkably determined to keep their appointments with legalized destiny. “It’s kind of funny. It didn’t stop people from going into the dispensary,” he said. — Read on www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/elmwood-park/ct-elm-speeding-crash-tl-0109-20200103-g2rtag3nbjcp3hv4astgzmd74i-story.html

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

Maury Povich lie detector meme: It says here… Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose further, with China hit by 104% tariffs

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
