    Zimbabwe: The Suspense Is Killing

    April 3, 2008 - By ginny

Such a platitude: “The suspense is killing me.” In Zimbabwe, the suspense is killing democracy: the Zimbabwe Election Commission has been slowly announcing results in a piecemeal fashion, with suspiciously neck-and-neck results when the numbers posted outside every polling station previously seemed to presage a much bigger majority for the opposition party (or parties, as there’s a split). Mugabe must go someday. But when?  Now it appears that he’s started a “crackdown.” The suspense could be killing people for real, very soon. This is Zimbabwe

Would The Bad Ex-Bishop of Harare Give Back The Farm?

    April 3, 2008 - By ginny

Just wondering. Would ex-Bishop Kunonga give back his farm, which was a “gift” from Mugabe? Probabl not. VOA News – Would White Farmers Return to a Post-Mugabe Zimbabwe? On the whole, those big commercial farms that were run by white Zimbabweans and owned by white Zimbabweans are now in the hands of Mugabe’s cronies,” she says.

Church of Nigeria’s Pastoral Letter: Not Edited by Minns?

    April 3, 2008 - By ginny

Episcopal Life Online – WORLD REPORT Take a quick read over the pastoral letter from the Church of Nigeria regarding things like GAFCON, the mysterious financing of same, polygamy in Nigeria and so on. It appears that it wasn’t edited with care… and ELO posted it verbatim. Bishop Minns apparently wasn’t available to do a little proofreading on his trusty laptop.

Tolerance and Inclusivity: Signs of the AntiChrist

    April 2, 2008 - By ginny

The FundamentaList | The American Prospect has a great round-up this week on Huckabee’s Bapti-costalism, McCain’s uneasy and unholy attempts to get all huggy-bear with the Religious Right, and Rod Parsley’s belief that Satan’s been running things in America since at least the New Deal. Oh, and that tolerance and inclusivity are signs of the Beast. Great.

BBtv – Klaus Pierre Does Pirates of Pantaluma

    March 17, 2008 - By ginny

I can’t explain why I find these little adventures of the French-German action hero funny and strangely compelling; they just are. In this one, Klaus wigs out in several languages and takes off into a park wearing a pirate shirt and puffy pants, which he gives back. No More Changes, Issue Ticket

    March 14, 2008 - By ginny

I have a message to call my least favorite admin, who waffles indecisively and has one of those “what if?” guys, as in “What if I fly to Nanjing instead of Shanghai? What if I stop in Munich before Milan?” What if you tell me no more changes and I issue the ticket?? Grr.

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

Maury Povich lie detector meme: It says here… Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose further, with China hit by 104% tariffs

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
