Colbert is magnanimous in truthiness victory

    December 9, 2006 - By ginny

Truthiness is the word of the year – CNN.com According to a survey by dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster, "truthiness" is the word of the year. In an email to the AP, Stephen Colbert, coiner of the word, forgave the "wordinistas" he had earlier derided for their reference-book minded, "fact based agenda," simply because they wished to honor him.  Word.

Chicago Trib adds video, audio to news stories

    December 9, 2006 - By ginny

Bone-weary haulers raise risks on road | Chicago Tribune The story is not that thrilling, but when you click on the link, a multimedia file plays that shows a mixture of video and still pictures, taken by a Trib reporter and photographer who rode along with a long-distance trucker. Interesting story, interesting use of the capabilities of the Trib online edition.

    AKMA’s Random Thoughts

    December 9, 2006 - By ginny

AKMA’s Random Thoughts NPR's Scott Simon had Sylvester Stallone on this morning; they discussed a future "Rocky" picture, in which he beats up other grandpas at the Old Folk's Home. Strangely, AKMA doesn't like Scott Simon? What's not to like?

    The Matrimony Boycott

    December 2, 2006 - By ginny

The Sit-In at the Altar: No ‘I Do’ Till Gays Can Do It, Too – New York Times Whether it makes sense or not, some heterosexual couples, mostly in their in 20s and 30s, are protesting the inability of gay and lesbian couples to marry by putting off their own marriage. Unless wedded bliss is available to everyone, in every state, they say, they want no part of it.

Episcopal Diocese Votes to Secede From Church – New York Times One interesting clause in their amendment supposedly erases borders so they could absorb disaffected parishes from more liberal dioceses. That cuts both ways, my brothers and sisters.

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

Maury Povich lie detector meme: It says here… Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose further, with China hit by 104% tariffs

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
