Chicago Tribune | Maureen Ryan No, not to my entry – to Maureen Ryan’s. She posted an item about “The Book of Daniel” being cancelled to her Trib blog. Shortly afterward, someone posted this well-written and thoughtful response: Hollywood bores America… and Everything about the Pompous attitude they exude.. keep highfive-ing yourselves with GoldenGayGlobes for Your insulting AntiAmerican, AntiGod Propoganda and you will also go the way of “Daniel” Waiting Patiently for all Netowrk Stations to fold under the weight of their left over dust ridden Award Shows…..Regards PC There were a few more comments from people whose brains and…

Take a look at what happens when metal objects are in the same room as a fully charged (“ramped?”) Magnetic Resonance Imaging lab. Several floor buffers, oxygen and welding tanks and IV stands later… hilarity ensues. Have a closer look at “Chair 2.” I think one of their CPR dummies is missing. 😉 Via the interesting Pale Blue Dot.

We watched an Iron Chef America episode tonight. Theme ingredient (come on, no one believes it’s actually a “sekrit” anymore) was pork. Practically an entire dead pig was laid out for the Iron Chef and the challenger to schlep down to the Kitchen Stadium. When the ice cream machine was shown with something that was formerly part of a porker being poured into it, I automatically screamed “ICE CREAM MACHIIIIIINE!!1!” Yes, we watch enough to know when to shriek in mock horror. Actually, it kills me when Alton Brown and Kevin Brauch start hollering. Too funny. However, I’ll pass on…

Golden Globe winner Ricky Gervais missed his chance today to connect with American public radio listeners. Yes, when Whad’Ya Know? called, Mr Gervais was not at home to Mr. Feldman. So they called some guy whose diner they ate at when they did a road show in the area. It’s a live radio show, and Michael was justifiably disappointed, noting that for once they had managed to book an actual celebrity, instead of some guy that wrote an obscure but quirky book. Oh, wait! As I’m listening in the second hour, they’ve gotten ahold of Ricky Gervais… no. Actually, they’ve…

I’ve been reading the original Gus Openshaw blog for about a year and a half, almost two years now. It amounted to a serial novel, with comments. With a lot of other people, birds, and dead guys, I participated in the comments (I am in disguise, although it’s probably an open secret now as to my identity). Since the end of the adventure some time ago, Gus moved on to another free online blog community, Mindsay. A blog entry from last year may help make it less confusing. “No, is too much. I will sum up.” First Review of the…

AAR has gone to a “paid premium” service. You can listen for free in real time, but if you want to time-shift or download a podcast, you pay. Hmm. See Air America Radio Premium for more info, but I won’t be subscribing. I’ve been a listener since Day 1, I was a charter member on the website when they started that feature. I’ll listen, for free. I’ll check for free podcasts elsewhere. I’ll happily watch the Sundance Channel’s 1-hour broadcasts when and if they start up again. But pay for access? Probably not.

I’m watching a movie called Men with Brooms that I had TiVo record, because a while back I was reading up on Paul Gross, and it sounded like it might be a fun movie based on my googling around. So I started watching, and it was really confusing. Finally realized TiVo had recorded the second half, then the first half. What probably happened was WGN changed the schedule and ran it twice. It’s much funnier when you watch it front to back, rather than back to front. Also, there was a Highlander alum in it, Peter Outerbridge. Yes, I’m weird…

Friday was a big TV-watching night here; Stargate and Atlantis both premiered the second halves of their seasons, and there was a new Numb3rs episode, a network show that we got into this year. David and I keep chuckling about a scene in Atlantis where Sheppard and and an attractive woman he’s imprisoned with discuss one of Sheppard’s greatest fears. Neera: And the clowns? Sheppard: Oh yeah, the clowns. We fight them too. Entire armies spilling out of Volkswagens. We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending them in. — Quotes Season 2 Actually, I kept…

Al Franken has returned from his USO tour over the massive Chrismakkuh megaholiday, and resumed live shows on AAR this morning. He and the crew have relocated to Minneapolis (which, if it’s true he’s running for the Senate, makes sense). Listen on the Web at blogs | The Al Franken Show | Air America Radio
