    St Nick’s on the Move

Wow! They broke ground at church while I was on vacation for the addition! Ginny I can has iPhone? Via: Flickr Title: St Nick’s on the Move By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 7 Jun ’09, 10.31am CDT PST UPDATE: And it’s about frickin’ time. This morning was my first day back after vacation – we returned late last Sunday. I knew that ground had been broken but wasn’t prepared to see the big mound of dirt, two earth moving machines, and the Honey Bucket tactfully screened by the sign provided by the Diocese of Chicago. Ahem, I see there’s a rather…

    The Doctor Who Trusted Women

Hundreds attend memorial service for slain abortion doctor Tiller — chicagotribune.com Reporting from Wichita, Kan. – This morning’s memorial service for slain abortion doctor George Tiller was a peaceful celebration of his life, which culminated when his wife of nearly 45 years, Jeanne, stood alone on the altar and, in a strong clear soprano, sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” which she dedicated to “the love of my life.” Many in the overflow crowd at College Hill United Methodist Church wept audibly as Tiller’s widow, willowy and elegant in a lace blouse and white linen skirt and clasping a white hankie, hit…

    Stonyfield Yogurt – Beef Stroganoff

I just made Beef Stroganoff using a Stoneyfield Yogurt recipe that I’ve had for years (David avoids dairy food but can tolerate yogurt). The funny thing is I’ve never actually used Stoneyfield, just whatever plain nonfat yogurt I found at the store. This time I used a Greek yogurt called Chobani that I found at Meijier, and notice a marked improvement in taste and texture. Result: very creamy and smooth, nice and thick, and VERY tangy. Stoneyfield is fine, too, but this Chobani stuff is strained Greek-style, and thus isn’t watery or “loose” when combined at the end. The Dijon…

Tiananmen Square: One Man, Many Tanks

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/9-nXT8lSnPQ" width="425" height="344" wmode="transparent" /] One man, with shopping bags, made a difference, even for a short while. I never knew there was a video, I had only seen the iconic photo. Apparently, the man actually climbed up on the lead tank for a while to shout at the soldiers within. You can hear crowd noises swelling as he delays the tank column. The twentieth anniversary of Tienanmen Square is reportedly being marked with plenty of plainclothes cops keeping people from videotaping, photographing, or doing anything to bring attention to the day. Feeling a bit sad at the news…
