    Wait, Wait! Don’t Frell Me!

It’s unclear if this Dilbert comic is about the inevitable arc of optimism-to-disillusionment in project managment, or if it’s about the elections. Or more likely, both. Either way, we’re frelled unless we break the pattern. Original at Dilbert comic strip for 11/09/2008 from the official Dilbert comic strips archive. Via Joey the Accordion Guy.

The Friends of Jake: Electoral Shifts

The New York Times has a slideshow of various maps showing how the electoral results break down. The first map is notated “Only 22 percent of American counties voted more Republican than they did in 2004.” This one shows that 78 percent of American counties voted more Democratic than they did in 2004. I thought it was hyperbole when I read some pundits saying that the Republican party was on its way to becoming a regional, not a national, force in politics. But in this cycle at least, it seems it’s advantage: Democrats. We’ll see how we’re doing in about…

NPR: Floss Is Forever A Dirty Word At Our House

On Monday November 3rd, NPR did a carefully worded interview with a book author as background on an upcoming Supreme Court case on something called “transitory vulgarity,” or the use of a naughty word on live broadcasts, and whether broadcasters should be fined if a celebrity occasionally drops the “F-bomb” in an unscripted moment of emotionally charged candor. As Court Weighs ‘F’ Word Case, Context Examined : NPR The Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday about the F-word. The case, FCC v. FOX TV, stems from some stunning moments of live television. Crossing The Finish Line

Teh awsum way to cross teh finish line: I liked this image a lot; it showed up in my feed back on Monday or Tuesday and was apparently taken at one of the last, or THE last, campaign appearances President-Elect Barack Obama made. And yes, I cherish typing that phrase. But I’m not going to get all triumphalist about the win, the way GOP commentators and bloggers did back in 2000 and 2004. We got a clean, solid win and a number of formerly “Red” states were in the “Blue” column, purely because of a lot of hard work by…

The “Star Trek” Eucharistic Prayer of the Episcopal Church

Naow that we can has a competent, intelligent preznit naow who is also spiritual, I’m reminded of a rarely-heard Eucharistic prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. I’m going to bug my priest, Steve, to use this one more often (he tends to either stray far from the BCP into other national church’s prayer books, or stick to the bog-standard “Eucharistic Prayer A.” When I lived in Seattle and was a member of Trinity Episcopal, we prayed “Eucharistic Prayer C” during much of the later summer and fall, when a more ecological view was appropriate to the season. One of…

Wait wait! Don’t Tell Me: The Obama Years

This is my revamped desk setup: the keyboard is a flatter Dell one that fits in the slideout tray under the top. The Microsoft Natural one is too high to fit unless bad things happen to the underhang with a power tool. Note “Wait, Wait! Don’t Tell Me!” pledge swag mug to the right. Oh boy! the WWDTM folks are in Boston, and their guest is Barney Franks. He got a huge welcome from his socialist-partisan fans. Aw, he’s telling a cute story about his boyfriend, Jimmy. And how it somehow relates to Bush, Palin, and Franks’ Secret Service nickname,…

    Kudos to waching Indecision 2008!

UPDATE: This was the scene Tuesday night, in our friend Jill’s downstairs wood-paneled rumpus room watching Indecision 2008, Jon Stewart’s and Stephen Colbert’s brilliant live coverage of the Election Night returns. This was actually taken early on, during the “Jimmy, juice it” competing title image sequence. Oh, the ludiocrity! It was choice. Dammit, WordPress will continue to strip angle brackets from anything posted to the site via any method other than Ginny I can has iPhone Via: Flickr Title: Kudos to waching Indecision 2008! Presidential Seals

Over at Daily Kos: State of the Nation they’re having some fun with Presidential Seal imagery. And that’s how I’m hoping things turn out. It’s looking good for at the moment. We’re over at Jill’s house getting ready to watch Colbert and Stewart, the best political analysts American society has yet produced.
