Second Life provides virtual meeting space, may replace millions of airline seats annually someday. May need to learn building skills in SL beyond rezzing a box… New World Notes: What the US Navy’s Undersea Warfare Center Is Doing in SL (Updated) The last time I tried to visit the Second Life islands owned by the United States Navy’s Naval Undersea Warfare Center several months ago, I was blocked from entering most of it. This machinima above shows what they’ve been doing in Second Life, including rapid prototyping, data modeling, and VoIP-driven conferencing, much of it between other branches of the…

Kirby: Temporal at the temple – Salt Lake Tribune The Angel Moroni atop the LDS Oquirrh Mountain Temple looks a bit worse for wear right now. Last Saturday, he got zapped by lightning. Witnesses reported a bright flash of light, a single B-flat note ending in a ducklike quack heard as far away as Idaho, followed by the usual self-congratulatory applause of thunder. A billion volts blasted the gold leaf off Moroni, turning his horn, face and arm black. In a program known as Regilding for the Dead, the LDS Church plans to fix him before the dedication in August.…

Listen to @WBEZ Worldview for discussion on Iran and Twitter, they quote an Iranian via IM who dared not call in via cell phone. Worldview examines the Iranian election | Chicago Public Radio Blog Coming up at noon Worldview is doing a show on the Iranian election. Of course you should listen closely to what Jerome and his guests have to say, but Twitter has played such a huge part in this story that you probably ought to check out what’s being discussed there. I heard this at lunch and it was worth a listen. Visit the page for many…

I think this is Air Force One, we’re on the O’Hare outbound flight path today, the timing was right for after the end of Pres. Obama’s AMA speech today, the livery was very light, was a 747… and several flights before and after all turned to the north, but this big bad boy came staight and true, right over my office. My co-workers had seen it from the eleventh floor and had all been looking at it, too. Ginny I can has iPhone? 3 young men, ages 14 and 15, tear it up on “O Solo Mio” on an Italian Idol-type program. Can you even sing like that without hurting yourself before your third decade? However, they’re miked, so not having to get the sound out the old-fashioned way over the studio orchestra (who aren’t that well rehearsed, frankly). One of them may technically be a baritone, all of them may be destined for either the opera, or some kind of romantic pop-idol musical limbo now inhabited by Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli. When I lived in Seattle, it was always fun to go down to Pike Place and watch tourists dodge flying salmon. The one guy that called out instructions like an air-traffic controller had a voice like ball bearings in a bucket. At work a few years ago, we threw plushy fish around after a team leader got ahold of the FiSH! corporate morale-boosting book. That whole idea of “play at work, work becomes play, be totally in the moment with your customer and throw a fish at them accurately” went away after that particular team leader or VP moved on.…

I’m currently watching Dave Niewart’s appearance on Anderson Cooper, where he’s talking about the phenomenon of the Lone Wolf gunman/terrorist. It seems that their panic at finding themselves in a country led by a black Democrat leads to an increase in violent incidents like the shooting at the Holocaust Museum. I’m currently gathering links to “wingnut hysteria” on del.icio.us, because I’m thinking of listing pairs of words that describe extremists at both ends of the religio-political spectrum.

Ginny I can has iPhone? Via: Flickr Title: We All Mourn By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 10 Jun ’09, 8.15pm CDT PST Inspired by Pollster.com’s post This is Personal Pop was having none of it. He walked away from me and wandered up to the museum staffer standing at the head of the long line leading to the elevators that takes all visitors to the museum exhibits. I thought for a moment that Pop was going to ask directions. I was wrong. He thrust out his arm in the direction of the staffer, displaying the number the Nazis tattooed on his…
