  • Only in Utah... - Politics, Schmolitics

Claudia Wright for US Congress, UT-02

    May 9, 2010 - By ginny

Hope my Utah friends and family take an interest in politics this fall and VOTE; even in ultra-mega-infra-Red Utah, there are Democrats worth electin. One of them is NOT worth re-electing: Jim Matheson, Blue Dog incumbent from the second Congressional district was thrown into a primary because his opponent, progressive liberal Claudia Wright, galvanized yesterday’s Democratic convention delegates. Howie Klein: Can Brigham Young’s Great Great Gay Progressive Granddaughter Oust A Blue Dog & Win A House Seat In Utah? A hearty band of awesome Democrats there put their collective foot down and prevented anti-healthcare Blue Dog Jim Matheson from winning…

    Ashes, Ashes, All Fall Down

    May 8, 2010 - By ginny

Looks like there’s going to be lots of bad travel karma this weekend and into next week, as many flights into and out of the Iberian peninsula are canceled due to another hiccup from the unpronounceable Icelandic volcano. BBC News – Volcanic ash cloud hits transatlantic flights Hundreds of transatlantic flights have been cancelled or delayed by a cloud of ash from an Icelandic volcano drifting south over Western Europe. Sixteen Spanish airports – including the international hub, Barcelona – are closed, with many flights being re-routed around the affected area.

BBC News – BNP loses all 12 seats in Barking and Dagenham council

    May 8, 2010 - By ginny

BBC News – BNP loses all 12 seats in Barking and Dagenham council. The British National Party (BNP) has lost all 12 of its seats on east London’s Barking and Dagenham Council. That’s satisfying, especially as it proves the local electorate are not Barking mad. I wonder how many votes the Raving Loony Party candidate got? That’s a stunning hat and impressive rosette, which might have convinced a few to vote for him in protest of banality. [Posted with iBlogger from my iPhone]

    Thank You, Emirates Airlines

    May 4, 2010 - By ginny

… you correctly notified the authorities that someone had purchased a one-way ticket to Dubai, in cash at the last moment. Did Times Square Bomb Suspect Almost Get Away? | TPMMuckraker CBS News adds that it was only thanks to a tip from Emirates Airlines that Shahzad, 30, was nabbed. Emirates notified the Department of Homeland Security that it had received a last-minute request for an all-cash purpose of a one-way ticket to Dubai — all of which are red flags. Before the arrest was made, law enforcement authorities had already notified authorities that the plane was not to take…

United and Continental Sitting in a Tree, M-E-R-G-I-N-G

    May 4, 2010 - By ginny

… and as a business travel arranger, I’m curious to know how this is going to effect me in the months to come, too. Some of my business travelers may benefit, but many of my guys are based in Houston (CO’s southern hub) and other Midwestern cities – NOT Chicago or Denver (UA’s main hubs). They don’t fly United much except for some of the ones that like the early morning ‘daylighter’ flights to Britain from Washington or Chicago. How the Continental-United merger will affect business travelers – USATODAY.com Now that United Airlines and Continental Airlines have tied the knot,…

    The Banality of Terror

    May 4, 2010 - By ginny

So this is the guy? He really does look like a Wall Street trader. And though multiple arrests were made, CNN still used the phrase “lone wolf” in their story. Arrests made in Pakistan in Times Square probe. [Posted with iBlogger from my iPhone]

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

Maury Povich lie detector meme: It says here… Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose further, with China hit by 104% tariffs

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
