    Need To Read

I was listening to AAR – Majority Report just now for the first time in a while, and happened on an interesting discussion with George Lakoff, author of Moral Politics : How Liberals and Conservatives Think. It’s very interesting. He proposes that political views can be categorized by two family archetypes, the Strict Father and the Nurturing Parent. As he spoke listing the attributes and belief systems of each model, it made our current political system of dysfunctional polarism sound more and more like Family Feud. There’s a lot more about how to take back control of the national debate…

    TAR: FOUR Emmy Nominations

The 2004 Emmy nominations were announced: TAR is up for four of them: Cinemetographym, Editing, Sound Mixing, and Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. And hey! Futurama got a few nods, too. Wish it hadn’t been cancelled, but maybe there’s hope for it yet.

    2nd TARSday in July

Just checking the schedule at our local channel, because TAR is on tonight! I am so stupid about this show. Yes, it’s like an addiction. I’m also addicted to reading Miss Alli’s recaps afterwards, because that’s how I actually got addicted in the first place. How can you not laugh at this: They start by suiting up in white coats, and Alison and Donny are the first to get their beef out of the way. Bob takes the side of beef and immediately predicts that he will never make it a half-mile. Mirna takes the beef for her team (ew),…

    Recap Heaven

If you don’t watch The Amazing Race, at least, for the love of God, read Miss Alli’s first recap of the season. And by the way – God is in the tub, so don’t bother to call on Him with your petty little problems dealing with taxis or beef.

    Separation of Cats and State

A picture says a thousand words – a 4-panel strip says it better than I could. Although – I do worship Bucky Katt. I love his permanently flattened ears, so slightly curled in contempt. I love his blue eyes on Sundays, so beautifully colored and thoroughly crossed. So I worship Bucky, but not in THAT way. Just in the “I love an impossibly psychotic cartoon kitty” way. Click on the image to read the full strip, and buy some merchandise while you’re there!

    Firefly: Jewel Staite’s Blog

Filming on Universal is a real trip. My dressing room is really close to the Jurassic Park ride, so every four minutes or so, this song comes on to signify the end of the ride. The Jurassic Park theme song. I thought it was really cool for, like, the first eight times, and now I’m humming it in my sleep. The trams go right by my dressing room too, which is surreal. I leave my door open when I’m inside to get fresh air going through, and I’ll look up and have tourists peering in at me like I’m some…

Hmm. Perhaps It’s Time To Spawn

You’re clicking your heels, however, if you own two TiVos because subscribing to two units now costs $20 a month ($13 for the first TiVo you activated; $7 for the second) instead of the $26 (or $13 for each box) TiVo used to charge. Hee! What did you think I meant, silly?

    TAR5: Leg 1

Okay… heartrate almost back to normal here. I’m still stunned by Dennis and Erika’s quick exit. Adios! I was so relieved that Jim made it with a bum stitched up knee and … that girl with him. I don’t mind her so much, because when she wasn’t shouting about cluetrees she was sort of sympathetically clucking “awwww, Dad, your knee…” You can hear her doing this, but she’s not shown actually looking concerned. Editors rule. I also thought it was very satisfying (ahhh!) that all the sucky mean people got on the later-arriving flight (with the exception of Chip and…
