I was sitting up reading last night when all of a sudden a storm hit – there was no warning other than a lot of wind earlier in the day – and it rained and thundered for about an hour or so. When there’s a storm the wind will beat on the whole house like a drum. I figured today would be a big rainy mess, but it’s actually very warm and balmy. The sun is out and everything is fresh and clean, although the wind is still blowing strongly from the South. If the wind swings around to the…

I had to go to our other location today and try to swap out one of our brand new Windows XP computers for a somewhat older computer at the “onsite.” This project was laid upon me late yesterday, and I was told to go out today after lunch. Turns out that the lady at the onsite would really, really have preferred I come out in the morning, and I was missing half the technical info I needed, and had to call the “hardware” help desk twice, and learned way, way more about how SABRE sets connect together (physically putting the…

Ow. For some reason my neck really hurts today. Probably too much time spent unched over, reading webpages. Also, it starts hurting if I try to use my cell phone for a lot of texting, wich is not good because it locked up and had to be swapped out for a new one. Thank goodness for warrantees; but unthank badness for not being able to pull all my phone numbers and snippets of quick text over from old to new. I’ve been working on vacation stuff at last. Should have booked the accomodations back in February when I yapped about…

It was cold the other night, we built a fire. Note to self: the damper is open if the handle is pointing TOWARD the window.

The Big House O’ Inflatables is slowly ramping up the holiday spirit – it’s hard to tell here but there are “only 6” inflatables thus far. The trend in the neighborhood (oy, an inflatables trend) this year is for bigger, multiple-unit tableaux (such as Santa/sleigh/Rudolph or a snowperson family unit). Also, the BHOI is using lower-wattage bulbs than they have in the past, so there’s not as much light (thus cutting down on the garishness factor). Mornings in Burbclavia are very tawdry – all the white-plastic deer and spiral Xmess trees look cheap and nasty, and the inflatables get turned…

Tuesday night as I left work, it was raining, then it was sleeting, then it started snowing. I toddled off late to choir practice and found the usual suspects had only just arrived; my favorite two British choir ladies (they are sisters) were dressed in identical lavender sprigged jumpers (translation: flowered pullovers in a thermal knit). Yes, winter has officially arrived, as my ladies are very particular in matters of dress. Had it been snowing any harder, they wouldn’t have been there. They are darlings. The next morning when I went to work, the snow had thawed, then frozen solid…

There is no point to this image, other than I was checking to see if I’d set up the pre-loaded div up right at Mfop2. It seemed to come over to the blog normally, so…

The florist shop in the building complex always goes all out with the seasonal decorations.

Holy cow, is it ever socked in. It started snowing at about 11 this morning, got really dark really fast, and the wind is blowing fit to bust. Naturally, everyone will have forgotten how to drive in snow and there will be lots of stupid idiots on the road. Everyone here is showing the whites of their eyes in re the commute home. On the other hand, I’m prepared… mostly because I never bother to clean out my car, so the snow brush is right in the back where I dropped it the last time I used it. Gloves, though,…

my husband David and I had a chance to test-drive a Ford Escape Hybrid today – meaning a partly gas-powered, partly electric-powered vehicle (a decent sized SUV) that gets great gas mileage and is touted as environmentally friendly. The technology behind it is interesting, innovative, and impressive from my point of view, since it’s designed to be fully integrated and automatic. There is no maintenance required on the battery pack and it never need be recharged (in fact, it can’t be recharged the way it’s designed) because it is continuously recharged by either the generator motor or by “regenerative braking.”…
