    Things Done and Left Undone

It’s been a busy week at work and at home and at church. I’ve gotten through a ton of work at work, done not so much work as a lot of thinking at home, and did some interesting new things at church. Saturday, didn’t do too much – I was thinking a lot about family members near and far, hoping for the best for one person in particular. Schlepped around and relaxed, otherwise. Much playing with the cat. David went in to work for the whole day, leaving me to my own devices. Sunday started out with a big last-minute…

Anglican Bombshell: Better Theology of Sex

Just when things were simmering down in the ever-boiling pot of Anglican angst, a courageous if foolhardy Canadian bishop most definitely pipes up: globeandmail.com: Bishop demands better theology of sex The Christian church has a deeply flawed understanding of sex that has led to morally groundless objections to masturbation, birth control, abortion and homosexuality, says a leading Canadian Anglican bishop. In particular, the church has been wrong for centuries on the notion that sex exists only for the purpose of procreation, Right Rev. Michael Ingham, bishop of the Greater Vancouver Diocese of New Westminster, told a conference in Ottawa last…

    Three Outta Four Ain’t Bad

This is too funny, and too true. I can't say I've evangelized with the evangelicals, but all three of the other things happens every Sunday, if I go to both services at St Nicholas with the Holy Innocents.  Which I've been doing lately, mostly because as a choir member I enjoy singing both services, as the music is slightly different for each.  Today was especially nice as a young woman with a gorgeous, trained voice sang "Domine Deus," by Antonio Vivaldi. Also, in both services we've been singing a really pretty modern "Kyrie," by Marty Haugen, that has a soft…

Samurai, Ninja, and Wannabe Immortals In The News

I've noticed several news stories lately with a similar theme… as a Highlander fan of long standing, these kinds of things always catch my eye. Once upon a time, we fans used to groan and say "Oh, no, not again, brace yourselves for the backlash," but the media never made the connection we did between "samurai sword wielding man wreaks mayhem" and an obscure cult action movie/syndicated TV series. Featuring a samurai sword man wreaking mayhem, but for good, not evil. Charges expected in samurai sword slaying Man arrested after Highway 4 car chase  Police shootings usually ruled OK…
