The recaplet is up: Adventures in Botswana continue as the teams start with a clue hunt that sends Brian and Greg into a spin. From there, they head to a Detour that includes goat-milking and the fine art of carrying stuff on your head. Ron and Kelly bicker their way through the goat-milking, while Lynn digs himself into a controversial hole with a crack about Uchenna and Joyce being “born to” carry things on their heads. Oh, and Rob and Amber are highly functional and work their way into first place again. The Roadblock involves dragging logs and driving through…

Dammit. JUST… dammit. TWOP: “Houston, We Have An Elephant.” Something went horrible-pearsheaped with the Brothers, who weren’t that far behind the two trailing teams at the outset, but went wrong and wandered around aimlessly for a little too long. The editing made it clear that all the preceding teams watched carefully for little yellow-and-red route markers attached to roadside bushes, and the Brothers Awesomeov never remarked “oh, there’s a marker,” so I think they took a wrong turn. As they remarked on discovering their error, “We are idiots.” Where the hell was the damn bunching?? Where the hell was flying…

I just bought this and now I must wait several days for the arrival. You must visit Manolo’s Shoe Blog to understand the super-fantastic fashion item that I await. Also it is the WordPress blog that Manolo is now writing and not Blogger so very much “kudos to Manolo” for making the fashion-forward leap of Internet savvy. You can find it and much more of great style and humor at Manolo Loves the Shoes! : CafePress.com and of course you must find the original love of the Manolo in the things he says of those things that are of the…

Local NPR station WBEZ is having a spring pledge drive today, which is apparently no joke. Local “listener supported” rock station WXRT is also having a pledge drive. XRT’s pledge drive is definitely more entertaining, but I do hope that BEZ’s is successful. 😉

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Eccleston quits Doctor Who role HUH? 1 episode aired, but he apparently fears being typecast. So just one series with Eccleston, and then yet another new Doctor. Huh.

That pretty much says it all for tonight’s double-barreled TAR7 episode – it turned out to be a non-elimination episode first, with an elimination second. Gretchen took a terrible spill and cut up her face something awful, plus they had wandered around looking for the clue before that, so they came in last. In yet another “new twist,” this time in addition to losing all their cash, they had to hand over their backpacks and all their possessions except for the clothes they were wearing. You can tell who the nice people were from the not-nice people at the beginning…

Now that I’m on the subject of British TV, I’ve recently gotten into watching “The Kumars at No. 42,” a wacky satire on chat shows set in the rec room of an East Indian family that live somewhere in British suburbia. The episode with Richard E. Grant (and Michael Parkinson) had me convulsed, but David didn’t really get what was so funny, and I couldn’t explain it. Comedy is haaaard.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Doctor Who is Saturday night hit The reviews are good; I hope it shows up on BBC America soon. I’d love to watch Doctor Who again after all these years – I watched almost all of the Tom Baker episodes and quite a few of the Peter Davison ones, long ago and far away in another dimension. All the Doctors are gathered helpfully together here. There used to be a very, very active Chicago contingent of Who fans; I wonder what they’ll make of the new series? I’m subscribed to a local SF mailing list,…

I’ve got the music we’re singing for Good Friday here at work with me, just looking it over and humming long more or less at the right pitch. And I’ve got chocolate tempting me, though I’m going to try not to eat it until at least noon. David’s home today and I won’t get to see him again until probably 9pm. Last night, I got home from the Maundy Thursday service at… 1020pm or so. And then Saturday night, well it goes to 11. Though we don’t really sing that much louder. Anyway, the piece we’re singing tonight is called…

We saw the ads for Sin City the other night – this article from Sci Fi Wire makes me interested in seeing it. Some movies adapted from comic books or that have a comic book sensibility are really cool or great (see The Matrix or Spiderman or Dark City). And sometimes comic-book movies just aren’t quite good enough (see or don’t see DareDevil, The Matrix sequels, and so on. (edited to add DVD links)
