@Pennycat denies involvement in disappearance of Twitteratti @Sockington Sockington is Missing (Update: FOUND) — HUZZAH SOCKS ARMY UPDATE: SOCKS HAS BEEN FOUND. He was underneath a shelf in my office, wrapped in a curtain, completely spooked and terrified. For the first time in years, he spent hours completely silent, not even reacting to hands, flashlights and food being waved inches from where he was. We’ve got him resting in a bedroom and letting whatever freaked him out get out of his system. As I posted on Jason’s blog post and Flickr page showing a very subdued Sockington, it’s a huge…

Every blogger worth her or his salt has already had a lot to say about Sarah Palin’s gobsmacking resignation yesterday. I can’t possibly improve on what they had to say (you should visit Mudflats, the companion piece at Huffpost, and Andrew Sullivan’s “Iceberg” post and catch up there). I heard fairly long clips of this speech on NPR on my way home, and I was trying to make sense of it and drive safely. All too soon, I gave up on trying to parse the unparseable and concentrated on getting home without incident. Some of the phrases I heard, however…

3 young men, ages 14 and 15, tear it up on “O Solo Mio” on an Italian Idol-type program. Can you even sing like that without hurting yourself before your third decade? However, they’re miked, so not having to get the sound out the old-fashioned way over the studio orchestra (who aren’t that well rehearsed, frankly). One of them may technically be a baritone, all of them may be destined for either the opera, or some kind of romantic pop-idol musical limbo now inhabited by Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli. I’m currently watching Dave Niewart’s appearance on Anderson Cooper, where he’s talking about the phenomenon of the Lone Wolf gunman/terrorist. It seems that their panic at finding themselves in a country led by a black Democrat leads to an increase in violent incidents like the shooting at the Holocaust Museum. I’m currently gathering links to “wingnut hysteria” on del.icio.us, because I’m thinking of listing pairs of words that describe extremists at both ends of the religio-political spectrum.

According to Pam’s House Blend, Larry Stickney of Protect Marriage Washington has a Twitter follower FAIL: Yep, two (2) followers. No SEO guys? No life coaches? No Bacon/Anti- Bacon bots? Not an impressive showing of support for withholding marriage rights on “moral” grounds. Ginny I can has iPhone? Via: Flickr Title: Larry Stickney Has Two (2) Followers By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 26 May ’09, 11.10am CDT PST UPDATE: Added the link to PHB that I couldn’t do as easily from the iPhone with the image in the mix, and while grabbing it, checked Mr. Stickney’s Twitter page. Still no followers,…

Beware Zombie Rinkwomen! Utah has a lively roller derby scene, with avid fans and some truly awesome, Amazon-like warrior women. Check this photo out from the City Weekly blog. Roller Derby: O-Town Report “This was actually the best game we’ve had so far. It was back-and-forth the whole bout, very competetive, lots of stress and anger on the floor due to the score being so close–it was awesome. We got a broken tailbone, broken glasses and huge rink-rash bruises. The final score was Sucker Punch Sweethearts 132, Ladies of Capone 122.” If I had to live in Utah again, I’d…

It would piss you off, right? I know it would really make me angry if that happened to my mom, but I can’t check because the information is hidden behind a registration wall AND a “member in good standing/temple recommend number” wall. Because when she was alive, she was really horrified by the idea that everyone in her family had been baptized against their will, after they died, and that someday she would, too. Well, it’s apparently happened to President Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham. I think it’s a terrible breach of spiritual protocol, the church’s own supposedly “hard and…
