    Iraq: The Hidden Story

Awesome Video about things on the ground in Iraq! « Hardliner Blog BBC4 documentary about the "reality" of Iraq, and how little of that reality is translated into images on the evening news. Contains graphic scenes, but they must be faced without blinking or flinching, because to turn away is to deny the truth.  Via OneUtah.org

Bourdain Sticks The Food Network Between The Ribs

ruhlman.com: Guest Blogging: A Bourdain Throwdown This guest-blog rant by Anthony Bourdain of "No Reservations" is so good, I had to quote the whole thing.   Via Simply Recipes  I actually WATCH Food Network now and again, more often than not drawn in by the progressive horrors on screen. I find myself riveted by its awfulness, like watching a multi-car accident in slow motion. Mesmerized at the ascent of the Ready-Made bobblehead personalities, and the not-so-subtle shunting aside of the Old School chefs, I find myself de-constructing the not-terrible shows, imagining behind the scenes struggles and frustrations, and obsessing unhealthily…

    Pimp My Poop

Drain cleaning company Roto-Rooter is giving away this ridiculous “pimped-out” toilet as part of a promotional sweepstakes. The winner will be announced on April 25, National Plumber’s Day. The irony is that the toilet itself seems pretty standard. They should have gone for one of those self-cleaning Japanese models with the bidet and sound effects generator. That’s got to be a mockup. I agree that a high-end Toto Japanese toilet is the Cadillac of thrones. Via Boing Boing: Luxury crapper contest

    Craving Fry Sauce

Hires:Product » Hamburger and Fry Sauce Two PackArctic Circle: Original Fry Sauce  There are few things less healthy to eat, and few things more satisfying, than fries with fry sauce. It's kind of a Utah thing – it was written up during the Olympics, it showed up on pins and posters, but still a locally acquired taste. It's not just ketchup mixed with mayonnaise; there's a bit more kick to it than that. When I was growing up in Utah, there were several local burger eateries, and Mom and I went to them all in turn.  We often went to…

    Purty Gurl

This is just a test post with perks: I get to see if Image Manager by Per Søderlind solves my little problem with IE not being able to show the WordPress image uploader. And it does, so nana-nana-booboo, Mr. Gates. My readers (all seven of you!) get to see my great-niece, Alexa. All snowy and cute. And perky. And it works! The crowd goes wild. Extended geeky navel-gazing follows… I had been somewhat puzzled by the fact that at home, I could upload images via either the WordPress built-in uploader, or via ecto, but I could not upload images while at work.…
