Remember the judge with the penis pump behind the bench? He’s getting himself off on a technicality by resigning his judgeship. He comments: “I have greatly enjoyed my public service and offer my gratitude for the public trust reposed in me during the terms I served,” he said on Wednesday. Yes, he certainly has.

Salon.com has a story on the Abu Ghraib rape allegations… you know, the one that’s been kicking around since the beginning, with the quote from the same witness as before. They blame civilian contractors in a story titled: “Contract to torture.” The story says “sponsored by the New York Times” at the top. This may be repackaged content from before, but the more major news orgs carrying this story, the less likely it is to remain buried for much longer.

A California lawyer has filed a potential class action lawsuit against the internet search company Yahoo. Stephen Galton says he was subject to a “barrage of harassing, defamatory and abusive messages” from anonymous users on a Yahoo message board. Let’s see – is this guy nuts for attempting to take on trolls and actually sue them, rather than threatening to do so as so many have done before? Being threatened with cartooneys is one of the Internet’s oldest jokes; next oldest is claiming to be one. In this case, it happens to be true. Or is he crazy like a…

…you should be. See A View from A Broad for a look into the life of a US soldier in Iraq with a point of view that’s as sharp as Captain Comic Book’s knives. Read it from as early as you can – at least go back to April and read between the lines. This blog/journal needs to be collated and published in book form. It’s that good.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 -Much of the information that led the authorities to raise the terror alert at several large financial institutions in the New York City and Washington areas was three or four years old, intelligence and law enforcement officials said on Monday. They reported that they had not yet found concrete evidence that a terrorist plot or preparatory surveillance operations were still under way. Also, Pakistan is claiming bragging rights or whatever that the prisoner they recently surrendered to our authorities (you know, the conveniently timed, big breaking news story surrender) provided a lot of the detail for the…

A Sunday Herald investigation has discovered that coalition forces are holding more than 100 children in jails such as Abu Ghraib. Witnesses claim that the detainees ” some as young as 10″ are also being subjected to rape and torture And still this story doesn’t splash all over the major television and print news outlets. It’s been bouncing around since Seymour Hersh’s first reports. A Google search on an unfortunate but important phrase in the story brings it up all over the blogiverse and the international news. It’s been touched on by a couple of our major papers, but it…

As reported in the New Republic on the 19th: The July Surprise is right on schedule. [Editor’s Note: This afternoon, Pakistan’s interior minister, Faisal Saleh Hayyat, announced that Pakistani forces had captured Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a Tanzanian Al Qaeda operative wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The timing of this announcement should be of particular interest to readers of The New Republic. Earlier this month, John B. Judis, Spencer Ackerman, and Massoud Ansari broke the story of how the Bush administration was pressuring Pakistani officials to apprehend high-value targets (HVTs) in time…

Okay, this works for me on so many levels: towleroad reports he’s a friend of TAR4’s Chip (not to be confused with TAR5 Chip). Anyway, the .50 millionaire of Season 4 is at the Democratic National Convention and had an encounter of his own with Bill O’Reilly. Remember him? He was one of the married guys. 😉 ‘Bill, I am gay, was married, and would appreciate you maybe next time on your show recognizing that two same-sex people in love should share the same rights as any other couple.’ He said, ‘I will consider it.’ Someone should start a blog…

Apparently, W. isn’t conservative enough for some. And this is a scary thought: 5 reasons Bush isn’t quiiiiite conservative enough for some people (admittely, he is more conservative than his Poppy was, thus more satisfactory to the hardline).
