Melts In Your Mouth, Not In Your Pounder

Yeah, so I don’t have a “Beerhunter” category, and besides the kind of beer we like to bring home is pretty sustaining stuff, if not actually chewy. Tonight’s tipple of choice is a new favorite: Young’s Double Chocolate Stout. We found it a couple of weeks ago at the local Binny’s and picked it up on a whim – turns out to be one of our better impulse buys, because at the same time we bought other Young’s products: Waggledance and Oatmeal Stout. From this experience we’ve added a new favorite brewer: Young’s makes good stuff, Maynard.

The unique thing about this stout, though, is the smooth dark chocolate taste. It’s a good “special occasion” drink, but a little heavy for pounding pint after pint. Very nice stuff, and the color of the head is like foamy chocolate milk. Mine didn’t have much carbonation tonight, though.

We came home with more Oatmeal Stout, Waggledance, and a new one called “Riggwelter” from Black Sheep Brewery. David and I had a Black Sheep Ale at least once – probably in York – but this new one is reputed to knock you back on your arse end, not unlike the unlucky sheep on its label. We’ll see; I’m looking forward to trying that one next.
