Has the Anglican Split Begun? | Liveblog | Christianity Today Meanwhile, in the western suburbs of Chicago, I attended a Wednesday lunch meeting witha senior American Anglican leader who said in essence that the time may soon come for orthodox Anglicans to create some kind of new global structure because of repeated failures of ABC Williams to hold “revisionists” accountable for proceeding with gay ordinations and same-sex rites and for advocating a host of other non-orthodox revisionist teachings. This leader who spoke at aninvitation-only event anticipates creation of anew Anglican Province in North America thatorthdox Anglican leaders would recognize. These leaders…

Inclusive Church blog: Our sound is our wound: audio of an address by the Revd Canon Lucy Winkett A long, but very interesting address from last fall’s Inclusive Church conference, “Drenched in Grace.” Best line: “We talk in the Church about modern music. We don’t mean modern music, we mean The Carpenters.”

Since yesterday, the website of the Anglican Church of Nigeria has been completely redesigned. Not only is retired Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold’s picture with Archbishop Akinola gone, but the picture above it with the Archbishop of Canterbury is gone too. They used to have a Flash animation splash page, which now seems to be the header image, with only Archbishop Akinola’s image, with a big pulsating purple cross. Guess we can expect a statement soon.

I’m familiar with Susan Russell‘s work – in addition to leading Integrity USA, she also helped produce the Via Media videos that we used a couple of years ago for a Lenten discussion series. Truth and consequences- Pasadena Weekly As the president of Integrity USA, the 30-year-old national Episcopal lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization, the Rev. Susan Russell has been at the forefront of some of the boldest, most inclusive and most controversial policy statements of any church leader in America. She’s also the convener of “Claiming the Blessing,†a national ministry focused on the full inclusion…

I’m home sick today, listening to the BBC News Hour on WBEZ. There’s been a lot about the Archbishop of Canterbury’s recent comments regarding sharia law in Britain. Here’s part of what he actually said, which was in a BBC News interview before a lecture before legal academics, where he went into more detail: In an BBC interview before the lecture, Dr Williams said: “Certain provisions of sharia are already recognised in our society and under our law; so it’s not as if we’re bringing in an alien and rival system. . . There is a place for finding what…

Yes! This is what we hoped to see: Chicago’s new Episcopal bishop, national leader speak up for gay clergy — chicagotribune.com Chicago’s new Episcopal bishop and the church’s national leader sent a clear message Sunday about where they stand on gay clergy, a smoldering issue that threatens to tear apart the denomination.Wrapping up a five-day tour in honor of Jeffrey Lee, the new Chicago bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori declared that the American church will not stand alone in its support of gay clergy during an international meeting in July in Lambeth, England. “Many more [bishops] than you might expect are…

I must have sent 3 press releases to Manya Brachear, the Trib religion editor. Maybe 4. I had hoped for a sidebar in the Trib on Holy Moly’s big visitation, but no joy in this article. She does an okay job of explaining the complicated background detail.  I’m planning to go to the shindig tomorrow at House of Hope, but we got a lot of snow last night and frankly I’d rather go x-c skiing rather than spending a lot of time cooped up in someone else’s car trying to get to the South Side. We’re not scheduled to leave…

Crap, I have to fax press releases to at least one local news organization for the “big visit” at Holy Moly this Sunday, as emailed releases aren’t accepted. Crapcrapcrap. I’ll have to do this from work tomorrow on break. Crapcrapcrap In the event of breaking news, please call (312) 750-7070. ABC7 News DOES NOT accept press releases and media advisories via email . We ask that these be faxed directly to our news desk at (312) 899-8019. Thank you!

It’s been another busy week for me – not in physically running around… no, wait, there was some of that – or in being cold all the time (just most of the time). At work, they’ve implemented a pretty much required cross-train, cross-skilled policy, and basically with next to no training we’re taking “online” calls – these are calls in regard to existing reservations that were booked using the various online booking tools we have for corporate clients. So they occasionally require a little human intervention in the case of cancellations and changes. In some ways, I actually like talking…
