    Tokyo Stormtrooper

Oh, my GOD, this is good geekery: Click on the photo for a full-size, gloriously detailed image. Check out Danny Choo’s website for the hilarious commentary (also much other anime/action figure weirdness). Danny likes to go out on various errands, fully armored and ready to put down the odd rebellion, perform traffic stops looking for ‘droids, or ride the train to Yokohama. The title of this particular set: “Densha Trooper.” I think that means something like “Railway Trooper.” Oh, Annie might need to see this. Via Boing Boing

    My Current Obsessions

David Hewlett: almost as surprisingly sexy as Mitch Pileggi. Also, strangely hot. Yes, I'm obsessed with David Hewlett, who plays McKay. Apparently, he's making an indie film with some of the other cast and crew of both shows, called "A Dog's Breakfast." He's been making films since he was a kid, so it may be worth a look if/when it ever gets a distribution deal. Still, I'm not that much of a freak for Hewlett: at least I didn't create a fanlisting for his hands, although I totally concur with the one for Joe Flanigan's hair, "Intergalactic Bedhead." Actually, Atlantis…

    Map Fun

A few days ago, I listened to an interesting piece on National Public Radio about “Google mashups” – fun projects that combine Google’s mapping technology with feeds or GPS data or something completely off-the-wall. One of the examples given was dartmaps – the Dublin Area Rapid Transit systems live-time system maps. Annie from Going Underground has recently been riding the DART, so I thought she’d get a kick out of this. They’re useful, and cute, too – all Thomas the Tank Engine and not at all what you’d expect from a regional transit outfit. Due to the time difference, I…

Hotlinkers: Busted! No More Bandwdth Theft For You!

Bandwidth thievery is pretty rampant. I only noticed recently that up to 69% of my bandwidth is being taken by leeches who’ve hotlinked to images here (moblog pictures, stuff I found elsewhere and uploaded to my server, and so on) and used them on their little free blogs. Well, the remedy for this is some .htaccess magic. David’s taking care of that. What really ticked me off was one girl took this image and turned it into her page’s background. Which, of course, is very lame on so many levels. And also, the image looked like CRAP because it was…

The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster By: Bobby Henderson Just when you thought your edumication was complete, the next wave in scientifical theories of the creation of everything is about to break over our heads. And in this theory, All was created from Nothing from the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Hey, it makes as much sense as intelligent design theory, and it’s perfect with a nice Chianti and a bit of aged parmesan. Coming soon is the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and sometime after that, a pirate ship whose missionary work will be to go out amongst the…

    Waka! Waka! Waka! Waka!

Holidays getting you down? Finals got you fried? How about a quick game of Classic Pac Man – new school? pacamajig.mov (video/quicktime Object). You’d think someone would have realized before that a University of Michigan library and computer lab are both excellent venues for live-action Pac Man. It’s strange how blase’ all the witnesses are, though. Via BoingBoing reader William

    Mythbusters Has Been Boinged! DVD!

Oooweee! One of our favorite TV shows has been Boing Boinged! It’s almost as if BB wasn’t really familiar with the show, which is weird because it’s totally on topic for them and totally aimed at their dream demographic: smart, slightly geeky people who build cool shit and blow stuff up in the name of Science! So anyway, there’s a DVD coming out. There are already a couple of books on the mighty Mythbusters. It appears that the mustache of Jamie Hyneman will probably succeed in taking over the world, one visual media at a time. But until then, it’ll…

    Ginmar

But it’s turning to twilight now, and I was looking at pictures, and writing. I got some pictures back in the mail: mom, just before she died, when she was that awful nursing home, in the last photo anyone took of her. Dad, in his awful tam o’shanter. The miles and miles of empty highway under that pewter Iraqi sky. I read how Iraqi women are basically going to be put under the thumb of the sort of people that we’re supposedly determined to defeat. and I just thought: I helped to do that. I helped do that to other…

    Small World Etc.

Annie at London Underground Tube Diary – Going Underground’s Blog reports that New Orleans Police captain Tami Brisset is stranded in London awaiting word from her family – she had originally gone to London to take part in the Tube Relief charity Tube challenge, and had been photographed taking part in the challenge and shown in a previous entry at Going Underground. She’s been interviewed by the Beeb and Virgin Radio, and still hasn’t spoken to her husband, who is supposed to have driven to Florida with their family. In the meantime, the good folks who came together for the…
