    Madrid bans too-thin models from catwalk – Yahoo! News MADRID (AFP) – Excessively skinny fashion models will be barred from a major Madrid fashion show later this month for fear they could send the wrong message to young Spanish girls, local media reported. That’s all very well, but when will Japan get around to banning fashion models who wear shoes on their heads? That would be fashion-forward indeed. Alert the Manolo! Bad fashion alert!

    I had the day off today, asked for it months ago in November, back before everything changed. Tomorrow would have been Mom’s 91st birthday, and the original idea was vaguely “go to Salt Lake for the long weekend and spend it with Mom,” since I missed part of her 90th birthday celebrations last year due to not asking for the Friday off of Labor Day weekend back in the November before that.             NOOOOO! They’ve installed advertising flatscreens in the elevators at work! It’s not truly “television,” but it’s yet another commercial intrusion into one of life’s little bastions of peace. It was bad enough when Muzak was all the rage, and you were forced to listen as you went from floor to floor, but I had hoped that we’d be spared ads in our obscure and out of the way suburban building.
