    Vote Notes

Yahoo! News – Dems see a rising star in Illinois Senate candidate Barack Obama has got all kinds of people talking. My mom-in-law really likes him – she’s always really well informed about local politics so her opinion carries a lot of weight (and not just because she looks really cute wearing her “Anybody but Bush” pin at parties). The weird thing is – I saw Obama, very briefly, on TV a few days before the primary, and thought “Whoa. Presidential.” At least his credentials seem to back up the incredible image and charisma he seems to project – which…

    Air America Radio?

Air America Radio’s website launch is supposedly this week. The schedule and roster have been posted, but there’s not much else at this site yet (and indeed, they still need a better domain). It’s a very weird thing, but I’ve had over a hundred hits on variations on Al Franken’s name this month, up from a big whoppin’ 6 last month. On the other hand, I’ve had 18 hits on what can only be described as fanfic from the fevered mind of Julia Child, if she were a hobbit: “orlando bloom and alton brown.” Whoever it is, they’re probably looking…

    Baghdad, Pakistan, Spain, et. al.

Something tells me I might need to have quick access to some of these feeds from The Feed Room I spent a lot of time looking at raw feeds (not live) there during the first couple of weeks of the war. There’s been a lot of breaking news in the last few days, and I don’t have good access to news at work unless I walk into the break room where the TV lives. On the other hand, I watched the fall of several statues in Baghdad “live” right here on this computer at work, and also watched a news…

What Will Al’s Fans Be Called?

It appears Al Franken is a little closer to bringing his talk/satirical commentary show to the talk-radio airwaves – supposedly a 31MAR start date for broadcasts from Chicago (yay!) and a few other cities. In the mean time, This Is The Shit has reserved a nice domain for him. And Sue Ellicott is involved – isn’t she the one on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” who never wins the news quiz, but always has a funny answer anyway? This could be fun. Now Al – Please, please, please make it available via the Internet. And please not using Real Networks…

Too Bizarre for Movie of the Week

Jan Broberg Felt’s story could be pitched as a movie, and it would be turned down for not being believable. She was abducted twice as a child by the same man, and was brainwashed by him both times. Now 41 years old, she was about to speak and sign copies of her book at a recent women’s conference in Utah when her now-elderly former abductor tried to crash the meeting. Although he was prevented from entering and confronting her, he ran someone over with his van and was arrested. She’s now an actress who has a recurring character on “Everwood.”…

    Impassioned Views

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Film | Bible belt devoted to Christ film We’re weird about religion in the US – in some cases (as stated elsewhere in this blog) very weird. I’ve been keeping an eye on the controversy surrounding this film. The furor reminds me of the one surrounding “The Last Temptation of Christ,” but as I vaguely recall, the more fundamentalist wing of the US religious spectrum (cough) was up in arms about that film and demonstrated against it. They seem to lurve the idea of this film, because it apparently toes their line of dogma(or has…
