    My Post-Twitter Post Post

    December 14, 2022 - By ginny

Last week I cleared the waitlist for Post.News and I must say it’s a pleasant place, although it’s still in beta. I also have a Counter.social login, but I don’t like it and don’t like how the anonymous creator of Counter constantly snarks on how bad Post and Mastodon and the other post-Twittter social media sites are.  It’s a different vibe and the culture is still shaking out. EM is doing a great job ruining Twitter as a global resource and it’s probably just a matter of time before he gets bored and gets an incentive to go away, but…

There Goes Salt Lake, Bulldozing My Memories Again. / Post.

    December 14, 2022 - By ginny

The church I attended as a kid is being torn down, the people are now renting space from the Episcopal church down the street. As I’m now Episcopalian, but taking a break from weekly attendance, I’m feeling very off-balance about this.

I Begin Blogging Again To Resist The Melon Husk

With Twitter being ruined and hamstrung by well-known rich man-baby Melon Husk, I’ve been considering options and preparing several lifeboats.

You Can’t Go Home, Or To The Cabin, Again

    November 19, 2022 - By ginny

flic.kr/p/4FgPK The family cabin is slowly collapsing… this photo is from 2005, so things have probably gotten even more dilapidated. My cousins own it and though we used to have access, apparently that’s no longer as simple as asking for the key and checking the calendar. My oldest cousin tried to sell it a few years back, causing shock and dismay. Yet it’s a pretty big tax payment each year, so I can see why he’d want to sell. Reportedly he sold off the piece of the property where I stood to take this… there’s a fancy new vacation home…

    This T-shirt Quilt Method Looks… Do-Able

    October 7, 2022 - By ginny

I haven’t sewn anything in months, but have the T shirts, tools, and batting to make this. For myself. Because it’s chilly now.

On Birthdays, And Continuing To Have Them

    October 2, 2022 - By ginny

More than a week ago, it was my birthday, so once again, what is it to me? 25 years ago, at a very advanced and nearly-spinsterly age, I married the love of my life, David. We met in Colorado, and a little more than a year later, we got married in Colorado, at a B&B that’s now closed and for sale. Much has changed since this photo was taken – my mom on the left died in 2006, and my mother-in-law Leah died in 2012. The Alps closed a few years ago; we stopped by on our June road trip…

Need a laugh? Behold the ‘Staches of Santa Clara Men’s Cross Country Team

    September 29, 2022 - By ginny

The Santa Clara Men’s Cross Country team is a glorious sight to behold. The team’s headshots have recently been circulating across social media, and the goofy photos — all featuring some sort of ridiculous mustache — are a huge hit. The East Bay Times explains: The growing of mustaches for team photo day is a… — Read on boingboing.net/2022/09/28/the-santa-clara-mens-cross-country-team-photos-are-a-glorious-sight-to-behold.html

Coolio, ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ Rapper, Dies at 59 –

    September 29, 2022 - By ginny

From a bookish, asthmatic child to crack addict to mainstream recording powerhouse, Coolio charted a path to hip-hop superstardom like no other. — Read on www.nytimes.com/2022/09/28/arts/music/coolio-rapper-dead.html Sad news for music fans. Fans of fine action movies will look up his Wikipedia listing and wonder if they should watch his movie “Submerged” out of respect. They should not. Nil nisi bonum, my dudes.

  • Insurance season is almost over, thank Dog

Avoid health sharing plans, they're not that great a deal. A friend had one while getting some pretty serious treatment, and he struggled to get the care he needed.

Elisabeth Yoder and her son Darragh recently experienced a huge gap in their health care "coverage." They stand in front of the family home, and they belong to a Christian "health sharing" plan that didn't reimburse for a recent ambulance ride.

  • Charm Patch Quilt: On Point

From Sew Can She - this looks like a great way to use up charm squares and scraps that can be at least 4 1/2-5 inches square. The contrast fabric and on-point arrangement add good visual interest without being too busy.

  • Tea Towel Hems

Bought some tea towels for gifts, looking for tutorials for adding colorful hanging cuffs after hemming.

I lean toward Method 1, mitred corners. Will decide once the towels arrive in case the selvage edges are good quality.

  • Sorry About The Mess: Trump Wrecking World Economy

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong?

Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office.

Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock.

Maury Povich lie detector meme: It says here… Trump is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose further, with China hit by 104% tariffs

  • Now Listening: Joni Mitchell | Black Crow

Joni Mitchell album cover Black Crow. A woman is superimposed over an empty road that leads into her silhouette.

    Text:

”Black Crow - There's a crow flying Black and ragged Tree to tree He's black as the highway that's leading me Now he's diving down To pick up on something shiny I feel like that black crow Flying In a blue sky I took the ferry to the highway Then I drove to a pontoon plane I took a plane to a taxi And a taxi to a train I've been traveling so long How'm I ever gonna know my home When I see it again I'm like a black crow flying In a blue blue sky In search of love and music My whole life has been Illumination Corruption And diving diving diving diving Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing Just like that black crow flying In a blue sky I looked at the morning After being up all night I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light I looked out the window And I I saw that ragged soul take flight I saw a back crow flying In a blue sky Oh I'm like a black crow flying In a blue sky”
