    What Chowder Of Nourishment

We’re off on vacation soon, and part of the time we’ll be in Maine. I don’t know if I’ll make it to church on Pentecost: I’m hoping we’ll be somewhere that I can slip off for a little church lady fix and David finds someplace to hang out for an hour or so. I started to laugh as I linked to this page, but the more I read this prayer over, the more I’m won over by its whimsy. Although I’ll pass on the pine needles and new-mown hay in my chowder, thanks, the other things sound quite all right.…

    Traveling Along in Second Life

Here I am, playing some sort of gamelan (described as an “elven samong” or some such) in a little pavilion in an area called.. “Qoheloth.” It’s a pretty place where people have set up pavilions with information about world religions, and there’s an entire mosque with a Stargate on top – that works, because I saw someone come through it. But unless you’re flying when you come through, you fall from the roof to the ground in front of the door, which is an ungraceful way to arrive for Friday prayers. In the same area are smaller pavilions for Jainism,…

    Aloha Maui. Vacation Pau.

The second week of our vacation, we got pretty busy with going out to dinner and making like tourists, and after David’s parents and Debbie left on the 27th, David and I kind of slowed down completely and relaxed. Thursday, after they left on their respective flights, we completely bummed out for the day at the condo, as it was overcast and very windy. We barbecued chicken that night on the rooftop deck that we’d bought at the natural foods grocery store across the street, trying to use up some of the massive amount of groceries we still had. Friday,…

    Today is… Friday?

We got everybody gathered and settled yesterday, and had a great meal together for “lunch,” and then we three women went off to the grocery store and spent too much on food and snacks. Ate a “snack dinner” last night and then as eyes were drooping, wrapped up and everyone went to bed in our respective condos. Getting everyone at the airport worked out well, as David’s parents and my friend Debbie arrived within half an hour of each other. We were so bushed from the previous day’s kayaking and capsizing adventure that we’d taken it easy yesterday morning, and…

    Yesterday and Today

We got our coffee and toast thang going and then got out all the snorkel gear and went off to Wailea/Makena for some snorkeling. Ahihi Cove was almost deserted when we got there, and as a pair of women were getting out, I asked about conditions. “Murkey and disappointing,” they said. David was all for bailing and trying somewhere else, but I already had my wetsuit on. Let me tell you, it’s a big exhausting fight getting into the wetsuit, and I wasn’t about to bail just yet. So I took a turn around the cove while David stayed on…

To Do Saturday in Lahaina: Pineapple Festival

We’ve got people arriving later in the week so have to be aware of things to do to enterain ourselves – this looks like a natural for a day out in Lahaina on Saturday. Local nonprofits will have food booths, there will be music, and admission and parking are free. The pineapple cookoff sounds like fun, too. As it happens, I took a photo on our last trip to Hawaii of the very brand that’s sponsoring this shindig. So enjoy the visual. Taken at the Gazebo restaurant at Napili Shores Maui Pinneapple Festival set for Saturday in Kahului – The…

    Meet Our New Friend, Honu

YouTube – Turtle off of Kama’ole II Here’s the video David shot earlier today of our new turtle friend, who lives about 250 yards in front of our condo. It was pretty choppy as there was wind kicking up, so we didn’t stay out long for our first snorkel outing of the trip. [kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/dDpdbb9gDoQ" width="400" height="326" wmode="transparent" /] We had a nice breakfast of Kona coffee, toast, and passionfruit jam, after getting up at some ungodly pre-dawn hour because of the time difference – as per usual, David was up before me and made the coffee. Soon the cameras…

    welcome to maui

Yeah, yeah, hate us because we’re in Maui, AGAIN. This time our karma must not have been good, as we had a series of mishaps as soon as we landed at Kahului. The door to the plane was stuck or the jetway wouldn’t extend, so we were stuck for about half an hour in the aisle. Then the car rental went really smooth, except that Avis gave us a bigger SUV than we’d hoped for, although their Preferred Express service is AWEsome. I couldn’t reach anyone at the condo who could tell us what our unit number was – I…
