my husband David says he didn’t know about this: Production Weekly reported that a feature film set in J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5 universe will begin production in April in the United Kingdom. Straczynski wrote the film, The Memory of Shadows, which will be directed by Steven Beck (Ghost Ship), the publication reported. But I remember hearing about this because I posted about it back in February, when the project was mysteriously known as “B5:TMoS” and a list of likely and unlikely titles was bandied about. The four lead teams start off with a colossal blunder in which they learn the lesson that you never know the operating hours until you look at them. Fortunately (because some of them are teams I like), they hit the airport bunch, at which point we’re off to Dakar, where things look a little different than they do in Scandinavia. It’s billed as a mixture of Amazing Race and blogging – 3 college students are actually studying abroad, but they are given tasks to complete and they blog about their experiences. The blogging software is Mindsay.com‘s, which as it happens I’ve used off and on. What a great news day. NPR reports that the new Secretary of Scariness, Bernard Kerik, had a troubled start in life and was reportedly a young tough or bully before turning his life around via martial arts and becoming a tough crimefighter. Just reading the fawning reviews at Amazon of his autobiography gives me the willies. He was a colorful beat cop only 20 years ago, with “little formal education.” And now he’s the scariest Department of Homeland Scariness commissioner we’ve ever had (admittedly, not far to go there). If No Icelanders Admit To Feeling Blue, Are They? The premiere of TAR showed people tearing past gorgeous Icelandic scenery and pestering gorgeous Icelandic locals for directions to Seljalandfoss (waterfall) and Vatnajokull (glacier). In their interactions with some locals in a town, Don noted that everyone seemed to be “ripped” at 7 o’clock in the morning. An old Internet acquaintance who lived in Iceland had mentioned that there are a lot of problems with alcoholism, so I wasn’t as surprised as Don was. Miss Alli’s Recaplet: Well, shoot. This week’s episode takes the teams to Sweden, where they get encased in ice and then go to — I am not making this up — a huge Ikea, because that’s what they have in Sweden. Of course, that’s what they have two minutes from my apartment, too. [Eye-roll.] Anyway, a brutal counting task proves too much for all but a few teams, so most of the group winds up slapping together particle-board furniture like there’s no tomorrow. The excellent TARflies Times has a nice interview with TAR co-creator Elise Doganier, and it looks like series DVDs are in the works. Yay! Q: Is there any movement towards offering DVDs for the show? A: There is. I’m hearing it’s going to happen. So keep your fingers crossed. I think it’s positive. It’s up to CBS. They’re very aware that people want it. It’s probably going to happen.
