My monkeylady was reading something on the computer, and then as she often does, wandered away. I took the opportunity to do a little kitty recon and found a few more fellow travelers in the Cat’s Right movement (our motto: “The cat’s right, monkey. Get used to it.” Another monkeylady writes about her cats, and has conversations with them much like I have with my own monkeys: ginmar: Note to self:After boiling hot water for “STOP THAT RIGHT NOW!” “NOW!” “Off the counter!” “What did I say?” “No more laser pointer for YOU!” “Get OUT of there!” “Get OFF of…

First of all, sorry to have left this unexplained for so long – David and I went and spent the night in downtown Chicago last Thursday because we were both off last week and we had a bunch of things we’d been wanting to do for fun. UPDATE: Everytime I look at this image I think how striking it is how a museum display can have so much impact. It’s a little like walking into an unexpected cathedral. Besides a narrative using historical dioramas and reenacted filmed material, there’s also a really cool video showing how the old German submarine…

Ha! My monkeys left the computer unguarded again. Silly monkeys. I took the opportunity to check in on a few of my brethren and sistren in the Cat underground. Caveat Lector | Good morning, housemonkey Didi came in for her morning trample bright—well, dark and early this morning. Yawning, I got up to feed her, and check in by IM with a friend of mine in Australia. Turning on the light, I discovered that one of them hurled on my winter cloak. Good morning, housemonkey! Isn’t it a lovely morning! Good work, Didi! I commend you. I myself have had…

Oh, a lady friend of mine is going to be very intrigued by this brand of rum, which was marked “Pistol” in the store. It has a tiny little Ho Tai figure on it with Chinese characters. Perhaps it’s meant for Chinese DVD pyrates? Via: Flickr Title: 12-10-05_1730.jpg By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 10 Dec ’05, 11.31pm PST

David’s return from the Great White North was accomplished and I picked him up from O’Hare’s KissN’Fly meeting point last night after work. He noted that it was much colder in Chicago than it was in Canada. Figures. We amused ourselves by sending text messages back and forth while waiting for the “Kiss” part: David: I have landed. 5 minutes to the gate. I will call when i am on the train. Hungery? Ginny:[picture of bright yellow arcade covering the KissN’Fly, which serves both buses and private cars] David:Stuck @ gate. Be a few more minutes. Ginny: [quicktext]Love you David:…

IS GEORGE BUSH THE WORST PRESIDENT — EVER? – Yahoo! News Columnist Richard Reeves reports on a recent poll of historians published by The History News Network at George Mason University: This is what those historians said — and it should be noted that some of the criticism about deficit spending and misuse of the military came from self-identified conservatives — about the Bush record: He has taken the country into an unwinnable war and alienated friend and foe alike in the process; He is bankrupting the country with a combination of aggressive military spending and reduced taxation of the…

Friday was kind of a busy day. That night was the holiday party for David’s office, and we had hotel reservations for the night, so the point was to get down there as early as possible and relax a little before going to the party. The relaxing part didn’t happen, owing to the typically “lousy” Friday commute traffic (“lousy” is the current term of choice used by the local traffic reporters on WBEZ). Work was work, but I’d arranged to go in early so I could leave “early.” This was theoretical – I ended up leaving about 20 minutes later…

I had volunteered to do a laundry run Thursday for one of the local PADS shelters; their regular person couldn’t make it and I got a call the night before. I didn’t have all the details on the pickup point, but I managed. Basically, I picked up bags of dirty laundry at lunch – easy, given where it was – and then dropped it off and picked up clean laundry sets at a nearby hospital after work. It was a long day, with lots of stuff going on at work, but the laundry thing was oddly relaxing. Since I can’t…
