A family member is on Medicaid, and could be affected by the #BigUglyBill and the murky definition of “able-bodied.” Also, a family friend is on Medicaid, but is moving to a Red state. I worry that both of them could lose health care in this era of “screw the poor and disabled.”

My family member lives in a group home and can work in a protected workshop for a very low wage due to the exception to the minimum wage for disabled workers. Fortunately, she works part-time for her brother, providing child care. He looks out for her and makes sure that she has access to transportation benefits and medical care through Medicaid. There’s a lot of paperwork, and he has to monitor everything on her behalf. She’s pretty capable, but juggling admin tasks is beyond her.
Meanwhile, my family friend is between jobs, has a chronic health issue, and is currently on Medicaid. She wants to move away from Midwest winters for her health and happiness, but is she risking everything by moving somewhere that may take Medicaid coverage away? I don’t know.
It seems like RFKjr will ruin health care for as many people as possible. As with so many other Trump appointees, his mandate seems to be “destroy anything that doesn’t benefit Trump or his big donors.”
